About Us - Pharmaceutical Dispensing Program

Company History

Physicians' Pharmaceutical Corporation incorporated in the fall of 2005. Ernie Riddle, our President, a pharmacist for over 30 years was approached by a pharmaceutical repackaging company from California seeking Mr. Riddle to represent them to physicians in Tennessee. They contacted him because he had been involved in repackaging for over 25 years and supplied the State of Tennessee’s prison system with their medications. Mr. Riddle knew that physicians had always been allowed to dispense medications under their medical licenses. He devised a plan whereby a technician employed by the physicians, could dispense name brand and generic drugs from bulk inventory. The repackaging program he was shown was strictly generics and cash and carry. Mr. Riddle expanded the plan to provide that PPC would enroll the physician practices with the PBM’s and pharmacy plans for direct reimbursement. His idea was to install a mini “pharmacy”, now known as a Physician Dispensing Location inside the physician office where the physicians could fill the prescriptions they wrote to their own patients. He didn’t want the practice staff or physicians to incur any additional work load or responsibilities. His model is what PPC uses today.

PPC staff files all paperwork for licensing and enrollments with the carriers and PBM’s. We then provide the computer and software, on-site set up and training, screening of the technician and ordering advice and inventory control. Afterwards, PPC staff provides ongoing pharmaceutical, compliance, and operational support.

The pharmaceutical dispensing program was test marketed in 2006 and part of 2007. Today PPC has installations in nine (9) states. Marketing is conducted to individual physician practices, hospitals, rural clinics, practice management groups, legal and accounting firms that advise physicians, and state and local medical associations.

There are ongoing efforts to educate governmental medical entities and agencies as to the benefits of physician dispensing in controlling health care costs through medication compliance, and providing better healthcare to patients. This will have applications in FQHC’s and Critical Access Hospitals.

PPC’s plan is and always will be to help physicians provide their patients a better quality of care and convenience. In doing so, this will provide them with additional revenue in an environment of ever increasing costs and competition.
